For most buyers the Lexus GX is the value pick: it shares the LX's badge, twin-turbo V6 family and 3,500kg braked tow rating for roughly $47,000 less to drive away. Step up to the larger LX only if you want its diesel or hybrid choice, longer touring range, quieter cabin and tenth airbag.
$47K
The LX opens near $177,000 driveaway against the GX's $130,000 as of mid-2026, about $47,000 apart, yet both share a Lexus badge, a twin-turbo V6 family, an identical 2,850mm wheelbase and a 3,500kg braked tow rating. With the LX you are paying for the bigger LandCruiser 300 body and the choice of engines, not more towing.

Line-ball. The GX runs a larger 14-inch touchscreen, the LX a 12.3-inch pair of displays. Both get wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto and a 360-degree camera, so day to day there is little between them.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle techequally well — this one’s a draw.

The GX has the sharper published geometry and the e-KDSS Overtrail; the LX brings LandCruiser 300 hardware and its own all-terrain Overtrail. The GX leads at the price, the LX matches it a class up.
Based on Off-road, we’d pick the Lexus GX.
Pick a priority above to see how the Lexus GX and Lexus LX stack up on what matters to you.
From the three-quarter front the GX reads as the committed off-roader of the pair: a tall, square nose, the full Lexus spindle grille and a high, chin-free bumper that clears the approach. It looks more upright and more overtly rugged than the Prado it shares its bones with.
The LX plays the flagship. Its wider, taller spindle grille and longer bonnet give it more road presence than the GX, and the F Sport grades swap in a blacked-out mesh grille. It is unmistakably the bigger, more imposing machine of the two.

The GX is the more accessible Lexus off-roader, and for a lot of buyers that settles it.
Spend the extra and the LX gives you the bigger, quieter, more flexible machine.

Opinions are our own.
You want a genuine Lexus off-roader without LX money. The seven-seat Luxury lands the same V6, the full 3,500kg braked tow rating and seven seats for about $47,000 less than the cheapest LX as of mid-2026, and the five-seat Overtrail is the sharper off-road tool of the two on its 18-inch all-terrain tyres. Petrol thirst and a small tank are the trade.
Explore the GXYou want the flagship and the powertrain choice. The diesel LX 500d is the long-range tourer the petrol GX has no answer for, the hybrid 700h is the most refined LX yet, and the cabin sits a clear class above. You pay from $177,319 driveaway as of mid-2026 and up, and every grade still tows the full 3,500kg.
