What the premium buys is completeness: standard adaptive air suspension, a 566km range against the Kia's 450km, a larger 526L boot, a triple-screen cabin, and the only five-star ANCAP rating in the pair. None of that is performance. For the buyer who simply wants the quickest EV per dollar, it is the Kia, comfortably.

The Audi SQ6 e-tron claims 566km from its 100kWh battery, while the Kia EV6 GT is rated at 450km from an 84kWh pack. That is a 116km advantage to the Audi, and the efficiency figures back it up: the SQ6 uses 184Wh/km against the harder-driven GT's 209Wh/km. The Kia trades range for the power it deploys, which is the deal the fastest grade always makes. For long legs between chargers the Audi is the more relaxed companion.

The Audi SQ6 e-tron carries the Q6 e-tron's five-star ANCAP rating from 2024, which applies to every Q6 variant. It posts strong 91 percent adult and 87 percent child occupant scores. The Kia is the exception in its own range: ANCAP's five-star rating for the EV6 covers all grades except the GT, which it lists as unrated. The lesser EV6 grades are five-star, but the GT specifically carries no star. Both cars fit the core active-safety suite, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise and blind-spot monitoring. The clearer safety gap is the rating itself: the SQ6 has one, the GT does not.

The SQ6 e-tron is the more usable shape of the two. Its boot holds 526L against the EV6 GT's 480L, and it is longer, wider and 140mm taller, so head and cargo room favour the Audi. The EV6's coupe-fastback roofline is stylish but eats into boot space and rear headroom, a trade-off reviewers consistently flag. Both seat five behind five doors. If the car has to double as the everyday load-lugger, the Audi is the easier fit.

The Kia EV6 GT brings the stronger headline cover: a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and eight years of roadside assistance. The Audi counters with a five-year warranty and six years of roadside. The SQ6 answers with longer service intervals, at 30,000km or 24 months versus the Kia's 15,000km or 12 months, so it visits the workshop half as often. Neither brand publishes a full five-year running-cost breakdown here, and the Kia's much lower purchase price is the larger ownership lever regardless. On the after-sale terms the Kia is the cheaper car to own; the Audi's only edge is servicing half as often.

For a buyer who tows or travels, the SQ6 e-tron is the more capable tool. It is rated to tow 2,400kg braked against the EV6 GT's 1,800kg, carries 116km more range for the long stretches between chargers, and its bigger 526L boot swallows more gear. The EV6 GT is the sharper performance car, but its shorter range and smaller load bay make it the weekend specialist rather than the do-everything choice. We'd pick the SQ6 here for the buyer whose car must earn its keep as well as entertain, and who can wear the price it commands to do both.

If the goal is the most performance per dollar, the EV6 GT is the clear call. It out-powers the SQ6 by 118kW, out-sprints it by nearly a second, and drives away for well over forty thousand dollars less, with a longer warranty on top. The local suspension tune means it can use the pace, and the simulated shift adds character the Audi leaves on the table. We'd pick the EV6 GT for the enthusiast on a budget, aware of the unrated safety status and the shorter range. The premium the Audi asks pays for refinement and space, not pace, and this buyer wants pace.

For the buyer who prizes refinement over lap times, the SQ6 e-tron is the better daily companion. Standard adaptive air suspension smooths the ride the lesser Q6 grades firm up, the cabin is a genuine step above with its triple screens and head-up display, and the longer 566km range eases the commute. The EV6 GT rides well for a performance car after its local tune, but its cabin, lifted as it is by the update, stops short of German-luxury feel. We'd pick the SQ6 for the buyer who wants the plush, quiet, long-legged EV and treats the pace as a bonus rather than the point.
