Buy the Toyota bZ4X Touring if you want the more capable electric SUV for the money: it travels 488km WLTP to the Kia EV5 GT-Line's 470km, charges faster and costs less to service, at a near-identical price. Choose the EV5 GT-Line instead if its head-up display, panoramic-screen cabin and longer warranty matter more than range.
42 Wh/km
The Kia EV5 GT-Line draws 210Wh/km against the Toyota bZ4X Touring's 168, so despite carrying 13.4kWh more battery the Kia travels 18km less between charges. On two electric SUVs priced within $30, the Toyota turns less battery into more range.

The money is a constant here, within $30 on driveaway price as of September 2026, so value comes down to what each car does with it. The bZ4X Touring returns more fundamental EV for the price, with more range, more power and half the servicing bill at $900 over five years against $2,000. The EV5 GT-Line answers with more standard kit and a longer vehicle and roadside warranty. Capability or cover: that is the call.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle running costsequally well — this one’s a draw.

The bZ4X Touring adds an eighth airbag and holds the newer 2025-dated rating; the EV5 GT-Line carries seven airbags and strong published sub-scores, with 88 per cent adult and 86 per cent child occupant protection. Call it a draw on the numbers.

For family duty the bZ4X Touring brings the bigger everyday boot at 603 litres against 513, more range and an extra airbag. The EV5 GT-Line counters with a bigger folded load space of 1,714 litres, a 67-litre front boot and the longer seven-year vehicle warranty. The Toyota is the roomier hauler; the Kia is the longer-covered ownership pick.
Based on Everyday & family, we’d pick the Toyota bZ4X Touring.
The EV5 GT-Line wears the boxy, upright face of Kia's family electric SUV, a clean and deliberately un-futuristic nose that reviewers note is styled to look like any other Kia rather than a science project. It rolls on 20-inch alloys unique to this grade, with full LED lighting front and rear. The tall, squared-off proportions are all about interior space, and the GT-Line adds the flagship exterior trim over the cheaper Air and Earth grades.
The bZ4X Touring reads as a rugged lifted wagon rather than a soft, rounded SUV, and Australian reviewers describe the look as an electric Outback. It gets its own front styling, chunky lower cladding and standard roof rails, and this grade alone takes the two-tone black-roof paint combinations on the configurator. On 20-inch wheels and standing 211mm off the ground, it has genuine road presence and an adventure flavour the standard bZ4X does not carry.

bZ4X Touring
The EV5 GT-Line sits at the top of Kia's cheaper electric range, and at $75,990 driveaway (September 2026) it spends the money where you sit.
The bZ4X Touring is the entry point to Toyota's dearer electric range, and for the same $76,020 driveaway (September 2026) it puts the money into the car itself.

Opinions are our own.
Choose the Kia if the flagship experience matters more than outright range. The GT-Line's head-up display, dual 12.3-inch panoramic screens and ventilated seats make it the plusher place to sit, and its seven-year warranty with eight years of roadside is the longest safety net here. Its 67-litre front boot and 1,714-litre folded space suit gear-shufflers. You accept slower charging and higher five-year servicing costs for it.
Explore the EV5Choose the Toyota if you want the more complete electric SUV for the money. It goes 18km further on a smaller battery, reaches 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, swallows 603 litres in the boot, rides 211mm off the ground and costs far less to service over five years. You give up the Kia's head-up display and a little cabin sparkle, but the fundamentals that decide an EV are stronger here.
