The Volkswagen ID.5 Pro is the smarter buy for most electric SUV shoppers. It costs $8,000 less than the Kia EV5 GT-Line, yet travels further, charges quicker and uses less energy for the same trip. Choose the EV5 GT-Line when you want its all-wheel drive, fuller equipment and longer warranty.
162 Wh/km
The entry, rear-drive ID.5 Pro draws 162Wh/km against the dearer all-wheel-drive EV5 GT-Line's 210, about a quarter less energy, which is how the cheaper Volkswagen out-ranges the flagship Kia on a smaller battery.

Kids change the maths, and here it splits cleanly. The ID.5 Pro brings three-zone climate with rear vents, the larger 549-litre boot seats-up and the stronger child-occupant score. The EV5 GT-Line answers with a bigger 1,714-litre load bay folded, a 67-litre front boot, vehicle-to-load power and a seven-year warranty. Choose the ID.5 Pro for daily cabin comfort and crash scores; choose the EV5 GT-Line for load flexibility and long-term cover.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The GT-Line wears the EV5's upright, confident face, the widest version of Kia's electric look, on 20-inch alloy wheels unique to this grade. The two-tone black roof is a GT-Line signature, and the closed-off nose with slim daytime running lights marks it as an EV without shouting about it. It reads as the premium end of a familiar, boxy Kia SUV shape.
The ID.5's nose is pure Volkswagen ID family, lower and softer than the Kia's, lit by IQ.LIGHT matrix LED headlights and a full-width light bar. There is no grille to speak of, just smooth bodywork and the illuminated VW badge. It looks more like a sleek hatchback grown tall than a traditional SUV, which is the whole point of the coupe body.

EV5
ID.5
The EV5 GT-Line is Kia's kitchen-sink electric SUV, the grade where the value brand stops holding back.
The ID.5 Pro takes the opposite approach.

Opinions are our own.
Pick the EV5 GT-Line if you want the most equipment and all-weather traction for the money. For $75,990 driveaway it brings a head-up display, built-in navigation, wireless charging, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof and dual-motor all-wheel drive, backed by a seven-year warranty and vehicle-to-load power. You pay more up front and use more energy, but nothing here matches its features per dollar. Best for buyers who value kit and grip over running cost.
Explore the EV5Pick the ID.5 Pro if efficiency, range and German-built engineering matter more than gadgets. At $67,990 driveaway it uses just 162Wh/km WLTP, travels 544km on a charge, charges at 175kW and services only every 30,000km, half as often as the Kia. You give up the big-screen tech, all-wheel drive and the longer warranty. Best for high-kilometre households chasing the lowest running cost.
