Pick the Kia EV5 for value, cabin space and an unlimited-kilometre warranty; pick the Renault Scenic E-Tech for the longest range and the more polished cabin. The Kia is the easier call on price and ownership, the Renault the one you buy for its range and character.
7-year
Every Kia EV5 is covered for seven years and unlimited kilometres, with eight years of roadside; the Renault Scenic E-Tech backs its cars for five years and 100,000km. For a family planning to keep the car, that is the bigger ownership safety net.
Pick a priority — we’ll show the numbers that matter and tell you which car we’d choose.

Both wear the maximum five-star ANCAP rating and fit the full active-safety suite as standard, from autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Renault edges the detail, scoring 92 per cent child occupant, 77 per cent vulnerable road user and 85 per cent safety assist to the Kia's 86, 74 and 82, with adult occupant level at 88, and it fits a surround-view camera as standard where the Kia waits for the GT-Line. The scores come from different test years, so read the Renault's lead as narrow rather than decisive.
Based on Safety, we’d pick the Renault Scenic E-Tech.

This one is close. The Renault packages a 545L boot, a flat rear floor and a fold-down armrest with cupholders, USB-C ports and phone and tablet holders, clever touches most rivals miss. The Kia answers with a boxier, taller cabin, a 513L boot that opens to a larger 1,714L folded, and a 67L front boot the Renault does without. Both seat five, hold five stars and keep real physical climate controls. The Scenic takes the smarter packaging and bigger seats-up boot, the Kia the airier cabin and more folded space.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The EV5 wears Kia's upright, boxy EV face, with its vertical daytime running lights and a flat, confident nose that reads more rugged SUV than slippery electric car. It is deliberately familiar rather than futuristic, and that is the point: the EV5 looks like a Kia SUV first and an EV second, which is a large part of its mainstream appeal.
The Scenic leads with a sharper, more expressive European face, its slim lighting signature and detailed grille treatment giving it a crafted, slightly premium look. The Esprit Alpine adds its own grille, badging and body trim. It reads as the more design-led of the two from the front three-quarter, matching the cut-above-its-price cabin reviewers single out.

EV5
Scenic E-Tech
The EV5 is Kia's value answer to the electric family SUV, and it sells harder than almost anything with a plug.
The Scenic E-Tech is Renault's European-flavoured play for the heart of the electric family-SUV market, and its headline is range.

Opinions are our own.
Your budget leads and you want the lowest drive-away entry in the class. You value a long, unlimited-kilometre warranty and cheap, familiar ownership over outright range. You want a boxy, properly spacious cabin with real physical buttons rather than a screen-led one. You want the quicker, more flexible drivetrain choice, including the dual-motor all-wheel-drive grades the front-drive Renault has no answer to. The sharper price and the longer cover are what close this one.
Explore the EV5Range leads your brief and you want the longest claim in the small-electric-SUV class, with lower energy use to match. You want a cabin that feels a cut above its price, and you will pay a little more up front to get it. You value a surround-view camera, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate as standard rather than as a flagship upgrade. You can accept a five-year warranty and a firmer ride on the Esprit Alpine's larger wheels for the range and the polish.
