The EV6 takes this for most electric-SUV buyers: faster 800-volt charging, a longer 582km WLTP range against the Trailseeker's 533km, and a longer warranty. Choose the Subaru Trailseeker if ground clearance, standard all-wheel drive and a bigger boot outrank charging speed, because its all-terrain hardware is something the road-biased Kia cannot match.

The Kia EV6's 800-volt system refills 10 to 80 per cent in about 18 minutes; the Subaru Trailseeker's 150kW cap needs around 30. The Trailseeker hits back on home AC, 22kW against the Kia's 10.5kW.

Both are five-star ANCAP, so neither is the unsafe choice. The EV6 leads adult occupant protection at 90 per cent against 89 and safety assist at 88 against 82; the Trailseeker leads vulnerable road user protection at 80 per cent against 64. Both ship the full active-safety suite as standard. The one caveat is the Kia's GT grade, which ANCAP lists as unrated, so safety-focused buyers should stick to the Air or GT-Line. On the numbers it is a genuine tie.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle safetyequally well — this one’s a draw.

The Trailseeker is the more practical SUV, with a 609-litre boot against the EV6's 490 and a taller wagon body for head room, plus standard heated front seats. The EV6's longer 2,900mm wheelbase gives strong rear legroom and a front boot on rear-drive grades for charging cables, but the Subaru is the one that swallows the weekly load and the holiday gear without complaint.
Based on Everyday & family, we’d pick the Subaru Trailseeker.
The 2026 facelift gave the EV6 its Star Map LED lighting and a redrawn nose reviewers agree fixes the original's awkward front. It reads low, wide and design-led, the sleeker of Kia's two mid-size electric cars.
The Trailseeker wears Subaru's rugged Outback language, a tall, square-shouldered stance with raised roof rails and genuine ground clearance. It looks like what it is, an all-terrain wagon rather than a styling exercise.

EV6
Trailseeker
The EV6 is Kia's design-led electric SUV, and the 2026 update sharpened a car reviewers already rated.
The Trailseeker is the Electric Outback, a high-riding all-wheel-drive wagon rather than a tall SUV, and the most powerful Subaru sold in Australia.

Opinions are our own.
The EV6 is for the road-tripper and the charging-led buyer. Its 800-volt system refills 10 to 80 per cent in about 18 minutes on a fast charger, the rear-drive Air travels furthest at 582km, and the range runs all the way to the 478kW GT. Add the seven-year warranty and the sharper, more design-led cabin, and it earns its higher price for drivers who cover real distance and lean on public fast chargers.
Explore the EV6The Trailseeker is for the buyer who wants genuine all-terrain ability and value. It clears 211 millimetres, runs standard Symmetrical all-wheel drive with X-Mode and hill-descent control, carries a 609-litre boot, and rides beautifully on rough Australian roads, all for thousands less than the EV6. You give up charging speed and some range, not capability, and the base AWD is the longer-range grade to have.
