The Polestar 4 is the pick for range, rear space and design, its 620km and roomier cabin clearing the Lexus RZ on the numbers that sell a premium EV. Choose the Lexus RZ instead for a calmer, more polished cabin and faster home charging, provided a real-world range near 460km suits your week.
160km
On the WLTP cycle the Polestar 4 travels about 160km further between charges than the Lexus RZ, 620km against 460km, the gap that decides whether a long weekend needs a charging stop.

Safety is a dead heat on the headline. Both the Lexus RZ and Polestar 4 hold maximum five-star ANCAP ratings, the Lexus from 2023 and the Polestar from 2025, and both remain current. Each comes with AEB, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control as standard. The Lexus carries the fuller set of published sub-scores on our side-by-side, but neither buyer is compromising on safety.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle safetyequally well — this one’s a draw.

As family transport both seat five and carry similar boots, 522 litres in the Lexus RZ and 526 in the Polestar 4. The Polestar offers more rear legroom on its longer wheelbase, but its missing rear window and coupe roofline trade some everyday visibility and headroom. The Lexus keeps a conventional rear window and a slightly more upright cabin. Neither is a seven-seater; both suit a small family comfortably.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The RZ wears Lexus's resolved, restrained face and a clean three-quarter stance.
The Polestar 4's front is all width and light bars, a design-led face that reads premium.

RZ
Polestar 4
The 2026 RZ is the Lexus reviewers wanted: quiet and beautifully finished, say the AU road tests, and, after a price cut worth tens of thousands of dollars, priced to sit on a premium-EV shortlist.
The Polestar 4 leads with design and distance.

Opinions are our own.
A calm, beautifully finished cabin matters more to you than the biggest range number. You charge mostly on AC at home and value the 22kW rate and the quicker 10 to 80 top-up. The salary-package maths and the under-threshold pricing appeal. You would rather have the brand and dealer network behind you, and your week rarely demands big distances between charges. The 500e Sports Luxury is the sweet spot.
Explore the RZRange and rear space top your list, and 620km of range settles it over the Lexus RZ. You want the bolder design and the larger 15.4-inch screen, and you can live with the camera rear-view mirror in place of a window. Longer gaps between services suit you. The Rear Motor is the rational pick; the Dual Motor is there if you want the pace.
