From$84,500
The BMW iX3 is the pick for most electric-SUV buyers: it travels much further between charges and refills far faster than the Lexus RZ, and it still drives like a proper BMW. Choose the Lexus RZ for its lower entry price, its quieter cabin, and mostly city driving where outright range matters less.
805km
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive claims up to 805 km WLTP, and even the entry iX3 40 travels 635 km on the same cycle. The longest-range Lexus RZ manages 460 km WLTP, so the BMW clears every RZ grade on a charge.

Dead even. Neither BMW iX3 nor Lexus RZ takes this category outright — the numbers come out line-ball.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle running costsequally well — this one’s a draw.

Both wear a five-star ANCAP rating, so neither is the safe-or-sorry choice. The iX3 earned its star under the tougher 2026 criteria, the first model rated to them, with the full active-safety suite standard on both grades. The RZ's rating dates to 2023 but carries strong sub-scores, 87 per cent adult and 89 per cent child occupant protection, with Lexus Safety Sense+ standard. On ANCAP currency the iX3 has the edge, while the RZ holds its own on published sub-scores.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle safetyequally well — this one’s a draw.

As family SUVs these two are near-identical. The iX3 measures 4782 mm to the RZ's 4805 mm, both seat five, and their boots are a dead heat at 520 and 522 litres. Fold the iX3's rear seats and it opens to 1750 litres, and it tows a braked 2000 kg to the RZ's 1500. The RZ counters with a cabin AU reviews rate quieter. For most families it comes down to range versus calm.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The Neue Klasse face is the iX3's clean break from the old electric X3: a slim, flush grille and sharp new lighting front a body 4782 mm long on a 2897 mm wheelbase. Both the 40 and the 50 xDrive get a panoramic glass roof as standard, and at 1895 mm wide it shares the exact footprint width of the Lexus.
The RZ wears Lexus's spindle-body front, a smoother, grille-less treatment that reads calm, not aggressive. The body runs 4805 mm long on a 2850 mm wheelbase, a touch longer than the iX3 but on a shorter one, with 150 mm of ground clearance. A panoramic roof is reserved for the 500e Sports Luxury, so the Luxury and F Sport read cleaner up top.

iX3
RZ
The second-generation iX3 is BMW's first car on a dedicated electric platform, and it leads this matchup exactly where electric-SUV buyers look first.
The Lexus RZ arrived in 2023 priced out of the room, and the 2026 update is the apology.

Opinions are our own.
Range and charging lead your list. You want long WLTP range, 635 km in the 40 and 805 km in the 50 xDrive, and 300 to 400 kW DC charging that keeps road-trip stops short. You want an electric SUV that still drives like a BMW, and you can live with a firm ride and no air-suspension option for it.
Explore the iX3A lower entry price and cabin calm matter more to you than outright range. Most of your driving stays in town, so 460 km WLTP is plenty, and you rate the Takumi-grade materials and the quiet AU reviews praised over headline kilometres. You want the novated-lease saving, since both 500e grades duck the luxury car tax threshold, and you would take refinement over a firmer, sportier edge.
