Pick the Lexus RZ 500e if value leads: it costs thousands less to enter, ducks the luxury car tax threshold and has a quiet, well-built cabin. Choose the Audi Q6 e-tron for much faster 800-volt DC charging, longer WLTP range of up to 566km in its upper grades, and a more tech-forward cabin. Both are quiet, safe, five-star family EVs.
225kW
The Audi Q6 e-tron pulls up to 225kW on a DC fast charger and refills 10 to 80 per cent in about 21 minutes; the Lexus RZ peaks at 150kW and needs closer to 28.

Dead even. Neither Audi Q6 e-tron nor Lexus RZ takes this category outright — the numbers come out line-ball.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle running costsequally well — this one’s a draw.

Both are five-star cars with the full active-safety suite standard, so the decision sits in the sub-scores. The Audi Q6 e-tron, rated in 2024, leads adult occupant protection at 91 per cent. The Lexus RZ, rated in 2023 and carried over, leads child occupant at 89, vulnerable road user at 84 and safety assist at 84, and adds a tenth airbag. The margins are small enough that most families can call safety a draw and decide elsewhere.
A genuine tie.

For families the two are close. Boot space is almost identical at 526 litres in the Audi Q6 e-tron and 522 in the Lexus RZ, and both are quiet, safe, five-seat cars. The Audi edges practicality with rear-seat climate control, a 64-litre front boot and a slightly bigger folded cargo hold. The Lexus counters with its quiet cabin, which reviewers consistently praise, and the lower price. The Audi is the marginally more practical pick; the Lexus the quieter, cheaper one.
Based on Everyday & family, we’d pick the Audi Q6 e-tron.
The Q6 e-tron wears Audi's new electric face, a closed-off grille flanked by slim Matrix LED headlights and the brand's split-lighting signature. The stance is wide and planted on its 1,965mm body, and the PPE proportions give it a longer bonnet than most EVs of its size. It reads as a premium SUV that happens to be electric rather than a concept car, which is the point.
The RZ leans into Lexus's spindle-body design, with a solid colour-matched nose where the grille used to be and sharp, angular lighting. It looks lower and more coupe-like than the Audi despite similar length, and the F Sport adds functional cooling ducts and a more aggressive front bar. It is the more theatrical face of the two.

Q6 e-tron
RZ
The Q6 e-tron is Audi's first ground-up electric medium SUV, and the first to make the brand's EV range read sensibly for families rather than early adopters.
The RZ is the car Lexus should have launched in 2023.

Opinions are our own.
Fast charging matters to you and you road-trip often. Range up the range matters more than the entry price. You want the more tech-forward cabin, with its triple-screen layout and augmented-reality head-up display, and the 64-litre front boot. You would rather service every two years than every one. And if outright pace is the goal, you are ready to step up to the 360kW SQ6 for the quickest car in this pairing.
Explore the Q6 e-tronValue and the pre-tax maths lead your decision. You want the entry grades that duck the luxury car tax threshold and qualify for the fringe-benefits-tax exemption on a novated lease. You prize a hushed, beautifully finished cabin over screen count. You charge mostly at home, where the 22kW AC rate helps. And you are happy with honest around-town range rather than chasing the longest WLTP figure, leaving the steer-by-wire yoke to those drawn to it.
