The BYD Sealion 7 Performance is the smarter buy for most, because it lists for less yet makes 390kW to the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select's 212kW, carries a bigger boot and packs more standard kit. Choose the Mach-E Select if rear-drive polish, an unlimited-kilometre warranty and longer roadside cover matter more than outright pace.
178kW

Family buyers get more car for the money from the BYD. The Sealion 7 Performance offers 500 litres of boot plus a 58-litre frunk, 558 litres in total, against the Mach-E Select's 402 and 451 combined. It is the longer car too at 4,830mm, though the Ford's 2,984mm wheelbase liberates a touch more rear room. Both seat five and both hold five stars. On outright space the Sealion 7 takes it.
Based on Everyday & family, we’d pick the BYD Sealion 7.
From the three-quarter front the Sealion 7 reads as a smooth, mainstream SUV rather than a performance car, its full-width light bar and slim headlights giving a calm, premium face. The Performance grade's 20-inch alloys and subtle detailing are the main tells over the Premium. It is a design built to look expensive rather than aggressive, in keeping with a car that sells on value and finish.
The Mach-E's nose still carries clear Mustang cues, a long clamshell bonnet, tri-bar tail-light DNA echoed up front and a closed-off grille shape that nods to the coupe. It looks lower and sportier than most electric SUVs from this angle, which is the point of the badge. The Select rides on the range's entry wheels, but the silhouette and pony detailing are shared across every grade.

Sealion 7
Mustang Mach-E
BYD built the Sealion 7 to undercut established electric SUVs, and the Performance grade turns that value pitch into a power play.
Ford put its most storied badge on a rear-drive electric SUV, and the Select is the entry to that idea.

Opinions are our own.
Power and value lead your list. You want dual-motor all-wheel drive, 390kW and a 4.5-second sprint for less money than the rear-drive Ford. A bigger boot, a head-up display and ventilated seats matter to you. You are happy to trade a longer roadside term and the Ford's driving polish for the most performance, space and standard kit at the price.
Explore the Sealion 7Rear-drive feel matters more to you than outright pace. You want the electric SUV Australian reviewers rate the best to drive, backed by an unlimited-kilometre warranty and seven years of roadside cover. A marginally longer range and a stronger adult-occupant safety score appeal. You will pay a little more and give up power to get the badge, the polish and the ownership terms.
