BYD Sealion 7 vs Leapmotor C10

The C10 is the cheaper way in. Its entry Style sits several thousand dollars under the Sealion 7 Premium, which starts at $54,990 before on-road costs, and both brands are running drive-away campaigns in late 2026 that move the real figure around by state. Warranty cover is identical at six years and 150,000km, with eight years on the battery, so neither claws back the gap in ownership terms. The honest read: the C10 wins the sticker on any basis, while the Sealion 7 asks a premium for its more finished cabin and standard phone mirroring. Read the C10 as the value buy, the Sealion 7 as the polish buy.

The C10 Design LR charges faster, and it is the surprise of this comparison. Its 800 volt system DC charges at up to 180kW, taking about 22 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent, quicker than the Sealion 7's 150kW peak and its roughly 32 minute 10 to 80 fill. Step down to the run-out C10 Style, though, and its older 400 volt hardware peaks at just 84kW, slower than the BYD. Home AC charging is an 11kW three-phase match on both. So it comes down to grade. Read the Design LR as the charging winner, the Style as the one to skip.

Both are among the roomier mid-size EVs, so families can shop either. The Sealion 7 is the larger car on paper, with a longer 2,930mm wheelbase, more overall length, and a 500 litre boot that hides a 58 litre frunk up front for cables. The C10's calling card is its second row, which reviewers repeatedly rank among the best in the class, seating a tall adult behind a tall driver on a flat floor. Neither will leave a family wanting for space. Read the Sealion 7 as the bigger box with the handy frunk, the C10 as the packaging champion in the back seat.

This is the clearest split on the page. The Sealion 7 has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on both grades, mirrored on a 15.6 inch rotating touchscreen. The C10 has neither, and Leapmotor has confirmed the current hardware will not support them, so you rely on its built-in navigation and connected apps. For a buyer who lives inside CarPlay that is a genuine reason to choose the BYD outright. For everyone else the C10's native system is large and quick, if less familiar. Read the Sealion 7 as the connected-car pick, the C10 as fine if you never used phone mirroring anyway.

At their best grades they are close. The Sealion 7 Premium claims 482km WLTP from its 82.56kWh battery, while the C10 Design LR claims up to 510km WLTP from a similar 81.9kWh pack. The dual-motor Sealion 7 Performance drops to 456km, and the entry C10 Style, on its smaller 69.9kWh battery, travels least of all. Independent testing of the Sealion 7 has landed nearer 450km in mixed driving, because it uses more energy than most rivals. Treat both as line-ball on paper, with the C10 Design LR nosing ahead. Read the Design LR as the range leader, the Sealion 7 Premium as barely behind.

Both wear five stars, so neither is unsafe. The Sealion 7 was tested under the stricter 2025 protocol and scored 87 per cent for adult occupants and an equal-best 93 per cent for children. The C10, rated in 2024, edges adult occupant protection at 89 per cent but sits at 87 for children. The active-safety kit is thorough on both. The real difference is calibration: the C10's driver attention monitor, speed-limit assist and lane keep are among the most intrusive on sale, and several cannot be disabled while moving, a complaint that follows every review. Read the ratings as a tie, the Sealion 7 as the calmer companion.

Grade decides it. At the volume end the Sealion 7 Premium's 230kW rear motor covers 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 6.7 seconds, ahead of the C10 Style's 160kW and 7.5 seconds. Step up and the C10 Design LR's 220kW closes to 6.2 seconds. The halo flips the order: the 50-unit C10 AWD Sports+ makes 440kW for a 4.0 second sprint, quicker than the Sealion 7 Performance's 390kW and 4.5 seconds, and for less money. Neither is a driver's car, both are tuned for comfort. Read the Sealion 7 as quicker in the mainstream, the C10 AWD Sports+ as the outright pace king.
