Denza B5 vs Toyota Prado: design

Denza

The B5 wears a blocky, upright face with slim LED lighting and a closed-off grille that signals its plug-in drivetrain. It looks more premium SUV than agricultural 4WD, the cabin's luxury intent showing from the outside, though the proportions are unmistakably ladder-frame.

Toyota

The Prado leans into heritage: an upright glasshouse and retro-square treatment nodding to LandCruisers past, the 70 Series and the original FJ40. It's the more deliberate, more expensive-looking design of the two, and the badge does plenty of the talking.

Editorial

The honest take on the Denza B5 and Toyota Prado

On the Denza B5

Two ladder-frame four-wheel drives at Prado money, one diesel and proven, the other a plug-in hybrid asking what happens when the hardware plugs in.

On the Toyota Prado

The Prado answers the way LandCruisers always have: with hardware you can trust a long way from a workshop.

The verdict

Which is better: the Denza B5 or the Toyota Prado?

Pick the B5 if

You charge at home and want running costs, power and a cabin a diesel wagon can't touch. The B5 brings a combined 400kW, leather, a head-up display, a 16-speaker stereo and real off-road hardware: front and rear diff locks plus a rear-axle low-range gearset. Pick the base B5 for value and its 600kg payload; pick the Leopard for the adjustable suspension and plushest trim. Accept a tight payload and a brand still writing its record.

Explore the B5
Pick the Prado if

Your trips run long and remote, you need six or seven seats, or you keep cars past the decade mark. The Prado's full-time four-wheel drive with lockable centre diff and low range, 3500kg tow rating, 110-litre tank and LandCruiser resale earn its premium. Pick the five-seat GXL at $86,430 (July 2026 pricing) for the value sweet spot; pick the Altitude for the stabiliser-disconnect and all-terrain tyres. You'll pay more for less cabin kit and bank it back at trade-in.
