The Geely EX5 is the smarter buy for most electric SUV shoppers: it opens thousands less, uses less energy and claims 475km on the WLTP cycle against the Mazda's 484km, while carrying a longer warranty and a five-star safety rating. Choose the Mazda CX-6e if its larger body, faster DC charging and dealer network justify the premium.
194kW
The Mazda CX-6e peaks at 194kW on DC fast charging, close to double the Geely EX5's 100kW, so it claws back a long-trip top-up far quicker. Around town it matters less: both charge overnight on 11kW AC.
Pick a priority — we’ll show the numbers that matter and tell you which car we’d choose.

Both are five-seat family SUVs, so this comes down to space. The CX-6e has the larger footprint. Seats up, Mazda quotes 363 litres; Geely quotes 302 litres for the EX5, or 410 litres expanded, without saying how it measures, so neither boot is clearly bigger. Fold the rear seats and the EX5 swallows far more, 1,877 litres to the Mazda's 1,434. Call it even.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The EX5 wears Geely's soft, upmarket face, with slim lighting and a clean, grille-free nose. It is a restrained look that plays to the car's comfort-first brief rather than chasing drama, and it helps the Geely read as a more expensive car than it is.
The CX-6e pushes Mazda into new territory. An illuminated Signature Wing grille flows into slim LED running lights, the main headlights drop low into the bumper beside wide intakes, and the whole front end is the most overtly styled thing Mazda sells. It is the showier face here.

EX5
CX-6e
The EX5 is Geely's first car sold here under its own badge, and it landed priced to make noise.
The CX-6e is Mazda's first mainstream electric SUV, and it comes with an asterisk worth stating plainly.

you want the cheapest honest way into a proper electric family SUV. It is five-star safe today, the more efficient of the two, carries the longer warranty and cheaper servicing, and still feels upmarket inside. You give up outright charging speed and the bigger car, but for a value-led first EV it answers the brief.
Explore the EX5the Mazda badge, a bigger Model-Y-sized body and a wide dealer network are worth paying for. It charges far quicker on a road trip, has the stronger motor and the bigger screen, and standardises comfort kit the EX5 reserves for its dearer grade. Just go in knowing it is yet to be ANCAP-rated.
