So the Hyundai carries both the bigger battery and the longer claimed range. Real-world range sits below the lab figure for both, more so at highway speed, but on the numbers the Elexio is the one that travels furthest between charges. If maximum range is the priority, it is the pick.

The MG wins on both power and choice. Its rear-drive Essence makes 180kW and 350Nm to the Elexio's 160kW and 310Nm, and claims a 7.5-second 0-100km/h run, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive lifts outputs to 266kW and 540Nm and drops the sprint to a claimed 5.1 seconds, quick for the money. The front-drive-only Elexio can't match either the outputs or the all-wheel-drive traction. That said, reviewers rate the Elexio the more polished car to drive, with a locally-tuned ride, where the S6 is marked down as firmer and less sharp. So the MG is quicker and offers AWD; the Elexio is the smoother steer.

The MG is the more spacious of the two. Neither is a compromise: the MG is stronger in the crash, the Elexio better equipped to avoid one.

The MG has the stronger cover. Its 7-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty tops the Elexio's 5, and it adds up to 10 years of roadside assistance when serviced with MG, where the Elexio offers 2 years renewed at each service, extendable to a seven-year warranty if you service with Hyundai. Both back the battery to around eight years. The Elexio hits back on service frequency, due every 30,000km or 24 months to the MG's 25,000km or 12, so it visits the workshop less often. So the MG leads on warranty length and roadside cover, the Elexio on how rarely you need to book it in. For most buyers the MG's longer standard warranty will weigh heavier.

It is close, and it depends on what you value. The Elexio wins on sheer screen real estate, a single 27-inch pillar-to-pillar display to the MG's 12.8-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch cluster, with a head-up display, surround-view camera and wireless charging standard, as on the MG. But the S6 keeps physical climate and volume controls that reviewers repeatedly praise against screen-heavy rivals, and the Elexio draws the opposite note for burying functions in its display. Both run wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and built-in navigation. If a big, modern screen sells you, the Elexio dazzles; if day-to-day usability matters more, the MG's switchgear is the easier companion.
