MG S6 vs Zeekr 7X

The MG S6 is the cheaper car by a wide margin. As of September 2026 the rear-drive Essence opens at $49,990 driveaway, a figure that already includes on-road costs, and the all-wheel-drive is $56,990 driveaway. The Zeekr 7X opens at $57,900 for the RWD, rising to $63,900 for the Long Range RWD and $72,900 for the Performance AWD, but those are list prices before on-road costs. Add registration and stamp duty and the entry Zeekr lands around $61,000 to $64,000 driveaway, so the real gap at the bottom of each range is closer to $12,000 than the two stickers imply.

The Zeekr 7X wins charging outright. It uses an 800-volt architecture that peaks at 450kW on the base RWD and claims a 10 to 80 per cent DC top-up in about 13 minutes on a compatible ultra-fast charger, and it accepts up to 22kW on AC. The MG S6 peaks at 144kW on DC, needs closer to 38 minutes for the same top-up, and accepts 11kW on AC. Both use the CCS2 plug, so the whole Australian public network is open to each. If you charge on the road often, the Zeekr's hardware is the single biggest reason to pay more.

By grade, the MG leads at the entry point and the Zeekr at the top, both on WLTP figures. The MG S6 rear-drive Essence claims 530km from its 77kWh battery, and the all-wheel-drive 485km. The Zeekr 7X rear-drive opens at 480km from a smaller 75kWh battery, so at the entry point the MG goes further. Step up to the Zeekr Long Range RWD, though, and its 100kWh pack claims 615km, the longest figure in this comparison, while the Performance AWD claims 543km. So the MG leads on entry-grade range and value, but the Zeekr's Long Range holds the range crown if you pay for it.

Both cars carry a five-star ANCAP rating from 2025 testing, and both fit seven airbags. Their active-safety suites include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and a driver attention monitor. On the sub-scores the MG S6 has the edge: 92 per cent for adult occupant protection against the Zeekr's 91, 84 per cent for vulnerable road users against 78, and 81 per cent for safety assist against 78, with child occupant protection a tie at 87 per cent. The margins are small, but they fall the MG's way across three of the four categories.

The Zeekr 7X presents as the more premium cabin for the money. Its 16-inch central touchscreen and 13.02-inch driver's display are larger than the MG's 12.8-inch and 10.25-inch pair, it runs tri-zone climate control to the MG's dual-zone, and the Performance flagship adds Nappa leather. The MG S6 answers with a head-up display standard on both grades, where the Zeekr fits one only from the Long Range up, and it keeps physical buttons for the climate and volume that reviewers consistently praise. Both get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera and heated front seats as standard.

The Zeekr 7X is the quicker car across the range. Its rear-drive grades make 310kW and 440Nm for a claimed 6.0-second 0-100km/h, while the MG S6 rear-driver makes 180kW and 350Nm. Step up and the gap widens: the Zeekr Performance AWD makes 475kW and 710Nm for a 3.8-second sprint, where the MG's dual-motor Essence AWD makes 266kW and 540Nm for 5.1 seconds. The MG is brisk enough for family duty, but if outright pace is the priority the Zeekr has the clear advantage, and a properly fast flagship the MG range does not offer.

For a value-first family the MG S6 rear-drive Essence is the pick. It is the cheapest car here, claims the longer entry-grade range at 530km WLTP, and carries the stronger ANCAP sub-scores across adult occupant, vulnerable road users and safety assist. Standard kit runs to a head-up display, a 360-degree camera and heated and ventilated seats, and MG's seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty plus ten years of roadside cover takes much of the risk out of an unfamiliar badge. It charges slower than the Zeekr, but for a household charging mostly at home, that matters less than the money saved.

For regular long-distance driving the Zeekr 7X is the stronger choice. Its 800-volt system claims a 10 to 80 per cent DC charge in about 13 minutes on a compatible ultra-fast charger, roughly a third of the time the MG S6 needs at its 144kW peak, so charging stops eat far less of the day. The Long Range RWD also claims 615km WLTP, the longest range in this comparison, against the MG rear-driver's 530km. The MG remains the value pick, but for a buyer who road-trips often the Zeekr's charging pace and range ceiling answer the two questions that matter most.

For performance the Zeekr 7X Performance AWD is the clear pick, and the more focused option of the two ranges. It pairs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout making 475kW and 710Nm with a claimed 3.8-second 0-100km/h, genuinely quick for the money, and keeps the bigger battery for a 543km WLTP range. The MG S6's quickest grade, the dual-motor Essence AWD, makes 266kW and 540Nm for 5.1 seconds, brisk but well short of the Zeekr's flagship. If straight-line speed decides it the Zeekr wins comfortably, though most buyers will find either car more than fast enough day to day.
