For most medium-EV buyers the Zeekr 7X is the stronger buy: it charges roughly three times faster, opens thousands cheaper and packs a plusher cabin, with a longer-range grade on offer. Choose the Subaru Solterra when standard all-wheel drive, higher ground clearance and Subaru's dealer network matter more than outright charging speed.
13 min
The Zeekr 7X's 800-volt hardware claims a 10 to 80 per cent DC charge in 13 to 16 minutes depending on grade; the Subaru Solterra's 150kW peak takes about 30 minutes, roughly a coffee stop longer at every fast-charge on a long drive.
Pick a priority — we’ll show the numbers that matter and tell you which car we’d choose.

A genuine split. Both are five-star to 2025 testing and ship the full active-safety suite as standard. The 7X leads adult (91) and child (87) occupant scores; the Solterra leads safety assist (82) and vulnerable road user protection (80) and fits eight airbags to seven. Weight occupant scores and the 7X edges it; weight assist and airbags and the Solterra does.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle safetyequally well — this one’s a draw.

Close, and it splits by what a family needs most. The 7X holds more, 539 litres to 421, and adds tri-zone climate; the Solterra answers with standard all-wheel drive, 212mm of clearance and eight airbags, the surer car when conditions turn. Take the 7X for space and comfort, the Solterra for all-weather security.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
Subaru's hexagonal EV face is clean but understated, the look reviewers call sensible rather than striking. Slim lights and a body-coloured nose sit over 18-inch wheels on the base AWD.
A sharper, full-width light signature and an upmarket nose the press ties to the Audi comparison. It looks the pricier car, on 19-inch wheels at the base grade rising to 21s on the Performance.

Solterra
7X
The second-generation Solterra is Subaru's serious swing at the mainstream medium EV, and its case rests on things a spec sheet undersells.
The 7X opens at $57,900 before on-road costs, the lower entry price of the two, and spends the money on hardware you notice every week.

Opinions are our own.
You want all-weather confidence and a brand you can trust. Every Solterra is standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, where the 7X charges up to the $72,900 Performance for it, and the Subaru adds 212mm of clearance, X-Mode and eight airbags. It charges as fast as the Zeekr at home on 22kW AC and claims 566km WLTP on the base grade. Buy the base Solterra AWD; it goes further and costs less than the Touring for the same drivetrain.
Explore the SolterraYou fast-charge in public, cover long distances or want the techier, plusher car. The 7X's 800-volt hardware charges about three times faster on DC, its cabin runs bigger, sharper screens and tri-zone climate, and it opens at $57,900 before on-road costs, the lower entry price of the two. Service falls due half as often and roadside runs five years. Buy the RWD for value; step to the $63,900 Long Range RWD for its 615km battery, head-up display and ventilated seats, the press pick.
