Subaru Trailseeker or Zeekr 7X: which should you buy?

The Zeekr 7X is the smarter buy for most drivers: it lists for thousands less, charges more than twice as fast at up to 450kW against 150kW, and matches the Trailseeker's five-star ANCAP. Choose the Subaru Trailseeker if 211mm of clearance, standard all-wheel drive and a settled dealer network matter more than price.

300kW

DC-charging gap

The Zeekr 7X charges on an 800-volt system at up to 450kW; the Subaru Trailseeker peaks at 150kW. That 300kW gap is the difference between a claimed 13-minute and 30-minute 10-to-80 per cent stop.

The honest take on the Subaru Trailseeker and Zeekr 7X

On the Subaru Trailseeker

The Trailseeker is Subaru's electric Outback, and it leans on what Subaru has always sold: ground clearance, all-wheel-drive traction and a dealer network that reaches past the capital cities.

On the Zeekr 7X

The Zeekr 7X arrived as the value story of the segment and has the trophies to back it: Drive Car of the Year and CarsGuide Car of the Year for 2026, both in the medium-SUV-under-$60k class.

The verdict

Which is better: the Subaru Trailseeker or the Zeekr 7X?

Pick the Trailseeker if

You drive gravel or snow and want the ground clearance (211mm) and standard all-wheel drive to back it up. You value a 609-litre boot and a dealer network with a workshop in most regional towns. You would take the longer 533km WLTP range and a settled ride over outright charging speed. Pick the base AWD over the dearer Touring: it out-ranges its own flagship and keeps the smaller, more efficient 18-inch wheels.

Pick the 7X if

Value and charging lead your list. You want the lower price, 450kW DC charging that cuts road-trip stops to a claimed 13 minutes, and the extra power. You would like a cabin that reads premium for the money. Pick the base RWD for the sharpest price, or the Long Range RWD for a class-leading 615km WLTP range.
