Buy the Zeekr 7X if hardware and value lead: on the road it costs less than the ID.5 Pro yet gives more power, far faster 800-volt charging and much bigger screens. Choose the Volkswagen ID.5 instead for its longer range, its more refined ride and the settled feel of an established brand with dealers and resale behind it.
5.3in
The premium Volkswagen ID.5 gives the driver a 5.3-inch instrument display; the value Zeekr 7X answers with a 13-inch one, inverting the usual assumption about which badge brings the bigger screen.

Match the basis and, on 2026 pricing, the rear-drive 7X lands about $3,950 under the ID.5 Pro on driveaway money, yet gives more power, far faster charging and bigger screens for the saving. The Volkswagen's premium buys range and refinement, not raw hardware. On value for money the Zeekr wins.
Based on Running costs, we’d pick the Zeekr 7X.

Both hold a five-star ANCAP rating, but of different vintages: the ID.5's from 2021, the 7X's from a tougher 2025 protocol. The Volkswagen fits 8 airbags to the Zeekr's 7 with higher occupant scores; the Zeekr leads on vulnerable road users and safety assist. There is little in it either way, so safety lands level.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle safetyequally well — this one’s a draw.

The 7X is the roomier hauler, with more folded space and rear room from its longer wheelbase. The ID.5 counters with 8 airbags, a higher child-occupant score and a lighter, easier-to-park body. For outright space the Zeekr edges it, for on-paper safety the Volkswagen, so call it a fair split.
A genuine tie.
Both cars handle everyday & familyequally well — this one’s a draw.
The ID.5 wears Volkswagen's clean, restrained EV face, a smooth closed nose under IQ.LIGHT Matrix LED headlights that reads as quiet confidence rather than showmanship. It is the more understated design of the two, and the more conventionally handsome, aiming for mature good manners over drama. Where the Zeekr wants to be noticed, the Volkswagen is happy to look like the sensible, well-resolved choice, and from the front three-quarter it carries its price with a settled, familiar dignity.
Park the 7X beside the ID.5 and it is the bolder car. A full-width light bar spans a wide, low nose, and the whole face is pitched at road presence exactly where the Volkswagen dials things down. It reads as the more assertive and more modern of the two from the front, which suits a newcomer making its case on hardware. This is the one built to catch the eye in the carpark, and against the ID.5's quiet nose it tends to do just that.

ID.5
7X
The Volkswagen ID.5 is the established, refined pick here.
Where the Volkswagen argues on refinement and range, the Zeekr 7X argues on hardware and price, and it does both from a lower driveaway figure.

Opinions are our own.
Pick the ID.5 if range and refinement lead your list, and pick the Pro over the GTX. Its 82kWh battery covers 544km on the WLTP cycle, more than the entry Zeekr, and reviewers rate its ride as the more resolved and mature of the two. It brings 8 airbags, a lighter and more compact body, and the reassurance of an established brand with dealers and resale in place. It charges slower and its cabin is connectivity-light, but for range, polish and peace of mind, the Volkswagen earns its premium.
Explore the ID.5Pick the 7X if you want more hardware for less money. On the road, as of 2026, it costs about $3,950 under the ID.5 Pro, yet charges on 800 volts far quicker than the Volkswagen, out-powers it, and carries much bigger screens. It tows 2,000kg to the Volkswagen's 1,200 and holds more with the seats folded. The trade is a younger brand with a thinner dealer network and no resale history yet, plus a shorter range and a chassis the reviews fault on coarse roads.
