The Uncharted is the Subaru EV that wants to be a WRX. It is the smallest and cheapest of the brand's three electric SUVs, a low, wide coupe-styled thing with two motors, 252kW and a 0 to 100km/h time of around five seconds, and Subaru aims it squarely at the keen driver. It lands in a single, fully-loaded all-wheel-drive grade from $65,420 drive-away, with 522km of WLTP range and 150kW DC fast-charging, and its argument is character over cabin space: it is dear for a compact and tight in the back, but almost nothing at the price drives with the same intent.

Underneath, the Uncharted is the twin of Toyota's incoming C-HR+ and shares its e-Subaru Global Platform with the Solterra, Trailseeker and Lexus RZ. What Subaru adds is its own tune. Two permanent-magnet motors combine for 252kW through Symmetrical all-wheel drive, a front-motor-led setup backed by a smaller rear unit, and the result is a compact SUV that hustles: quicker than any petrol Subaru bar the halo cars, and planted in the way buyers expect of the badge.
Australia gets one specification, and it is the loaded one. Where other markets sell cheaper front-drive Uncharteds, local cars are the dual-motor AWD only, with a 14-inch touchscreen, Harman Kardon audio, heated front and rear seats, powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers and a digital rear-view mirror all standard. The only cost options are a panoramic glass roof and two-tone paint. It is a simple car to buy: there is nothing to configure and no pared-back base grade to avoid.
The Subaru hardware is intact under the coupe roofline. Ground clearance is 211mm, far above most style-led electric SUVs, and X-Mode with hill-descent control means it will follow the Solterra and Trailseeker down a dirt road. It also carries 1500W vehicle-to-load as standard, so it can run camp gear or tools from the battery, which is the sort of practical touch the adventure billing asks for.
The catch is size and price. At 4,535mm with a 403-litre boot and room for four in comfort, the Uncharted is properly compact, and it starts above a base Tesla Model Y that gives you a size class more car. There is no spare wheel, only a puncture kit, no over-the-air updates or connected services, and 150kW DC charging that newer 800-volt rivals now beat. You buy the Uncharted for how it looks and drives and for Subaru's dealer network, not for space or charging bragging rights.
252kW
Subaru's smallest EV makes more power than the previous-generation WRX STI, driving all four wheels through a dual-motor Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
The Uncharted is sold as a single, fully-equipped all-wheel-drive grade, so there is no trim ladder to climb. The only choices are cosmetic option packs, which means the buying decision is really just yes or no on the car itself.
From $65,420
The whole car: 252kW dual-motor AWD, 522km range, 20-inch wheels, a 14-inch screen, Harman Kardon audio, heated front and rear seats, a 360-degree camera, 1500W vehicle-to-load and the full safety suite. Panoramic roof and two-tone paint are the only cost options.

We would buy the Uncharted for the driving, not the dimensions. It is the sharpest-handling and best-looking of Subaru's electric SUVs, loaded to the roof as standard, and it keeps the brand's all-road hardware intact. Choose it if you want a compact EV with character and Subaru's network behind it; skip it if you need a big boot, the longest range or the cheapest way into an electric SUV, because on those measures the Uncharted asks you to pay more for less.
Past generations. Context, not the car on sale today.
The Uncharted is a brand-new nameplate, launched in Australia in August 2026 as the third and smallest member of Subaru's electric SUV family, below the Solterra and Trailseeker. It marks Subaru's move to cover the small, medium and large electric SUV segments in a single model year, built on the shared platform it develops with Toyota.
