Subaru Uncharted vs Toyota bZ4X

But the moment you want all-wheel drive the answer flips: the bZ4X AWD costs $73,920, about $8,500 more than the Uncharted, for the same 252kW. Both prices are drive-away for a NSW private buyer in September 2026, so the comparison is clean. If front-wheel drive suits you the bZ4X wins on price; if you want all-wheel drive the Uncharted is both cheaper and better equipped.

The front-drive Toyota bZ4X 2WD claims 591km WLTP, comfortably ahead of the Subaru Uncharted's 522. Both draw on the same 74.7kWh battery, so the lighter, more efficient Toyota does more with the same energy, using 138Wh/km to the Subaru's 160. The bZ4X AWD drops to 517km, just below the Uncharted, so the longest-range car here is specifically the front-drive bZ4X. For maximum range you buy the bZ4X 2WD; the Uncharted's 522km is still enough for most, but it is the shorter-legged of the two.

But on price, power and equipment for an all-wheel-drive electric SUV, the Uncharted leads. For AWD at this money, the Subaru is the smarter pick of the two.

For most families the Toyota bZ4X is the easier choice. It has the longer body and the bigger 452-litre boot, claims the most range at 591km to ease the weekly running, and is backed by Toyota's connected services and the country's largest dealer network, which matters for servicing and resale. It also comes in at the lowest price in front-drive form. The Uncharted answers with all-wheel drive, more power and more standard kit, but its 403-litre boot and tighter cabin make it the snugger fit. A family prioritising space, range and support should take the bZ4X.

Both are inexpensive to own, with five-year warranties, 12-month or 15,000km service intervals and capped-price servicing. The difference is reach. The Toyota bZ4X is backed by the largest dealer network in Australia and brings connected services the Uncharted goes without, which can matter for convenience, servicing access and resale. The Subaru counters with genuinely cheap servicing and its own established network. Neither is a weak link on ownership, but if breadth of dealer support and connected features rank highly, the bZ4X has the edge; if outright servicing cost leads, the two are close.
