Deepal S07 or MG S6: which should you buy?

For most buyers the MG S6 is the stronger everyday electric SUV: it travels further, charges faster, holds more, uses less energy and covers you longer than the Deepal S07 for about two thousand more. Choose the Deepal for its plusher cabin, bigger screens, Sony audio and lower price.

70%

ANCAP SAFETY-ASSIST

Both electric SUVs hold five ANCAP stars, yet the Deepal S07 scores just 70 per cent for safety-assist, its weakest category and a legacy of the driver-aid criticism it launched with. The MG S6 manages 81 per cent.

Deepal S07 vs MG S6: design

Deepal

The S07 wears a coupe-SUV fastback shape with a closed, grille-free EV nose, slim split LED headlights and a low, tapering roofline. Deepal's triangular chevron badge sits front and centre, and the standard 20-inch wheels fill the arches. It reads as the sleeker, more styled car of the two from the front three-quarter.

MG

The S6 takes a more conventional, upright SUV stance, taller through the glasshouse and squarer in its proportions than the Deepal. A closed EV face, sharp LED signatures and 20-inch alloys give it presence without drama. It looks the more familiar, mainstream shape here, the kind a first-time EV buyer reads as reassuringly normal.

The honest take on the Deepal S07 and MG S6

On the Deepal S07

The S07 is the plusher-feeling car of this pair, and it leads with the showroom, not the spec sheet.

On the MG S6

The S6 is the more complete everyday car here, and it earns the label on the numbers you use daily.

The verdict

Which is better: the Deepal S07 or the MG S6?

Pick the S07 if

The cabin sells you: a 15.6-inch screen, a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14-speaker Sony system that read a class above the MG's. You want the fixed panoramic roof that the rear-drive S6 saves for its all-wheel-drive, and the longer battery warranty, eight years and 240,000km. You charge at home most nights, so 475km of WLTP range is plenty, and the two-thousand saving and higher adult-occupant crash score seal it.

Pick the S6 if

The everyday numbers lead your list. You want the longer 530km WLTP range, the faster 144kW charging and the bigger 581-litre boot, and you value the lower 145Wh/km energy use over the Deepal's 186. Long ownership cover matters too, so an unlimited-kilometre warranty and up to ten years of roadside count. Take the rear-drive Essence for range and value; the dearer all-wheel-drive adds 266kW and the panoramic roof, a niche pick.
