Deepal S07 vs MG S6

As of September 2026 the Deepal S07 is $47,990 drive-away and the rear-drive MG S6 Essence is $49,990, a gap of about two thousand dollars. The Deepal's price is a run-out deal on its last stock, the 19-inch cars have already sold out, while the MG holds the launch price it set in May. Both prices are drive-away, meaning on-road costs sit inside the figure already. The saving is real but modest, and it comes with less range and slower charging, so weigh it against how much you drive. Confirm the current figure with a dealer, since run-out and launch offers both move.

The rear-drive MG S6 is rated at 530km on the WLTP lab cycle and the Deepal S07 at 475km, so the MG travels about 55km further on paper. The surprise is that it does so from a smaller battery, 77kWh against the Deepal's 79.97, because it is more efficient, using 145Wh/km to the S07's 186. As with every EV, real-world range sits below the lab number for both, more so in cold weather or at highway speed. A standard heat pump on each helps. For most weeks either covers the commuting with charge to spare, but the MG has the clearer buffer.

On a DC fast charger the MG S6 peaks at 144kW and quotes a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in about 38 minutes. The Deepal S07 peaks at just 92kW, the figure reviewers most often mark it down for, so even a shorter 30 to 80 per cent fill takes around 35 minutes. Each takes 11kW AC, so a home wallbox tops either up overnight, and both run the CCS2 standard for DC. If you charge mainly at home the gap matters little; if you rely on public fast chargers or road-trip often, the MG is the easier car to own.

Both are rated five stars, so neither is unsafe, but the detail differs. The Deepal S07, tested in 2024, takes the adult occupant score, 95 per cent to the MG's 92. The MG S6, tested in 2025, leads elsewhere: 84 for vulnerable road users to the Deepal's 74, and 81 for safety-assist to 70. The Deepal's lower assist score traces to the over-eager driver aids it launched with, since reworked over the air. Standard active safety is close: both carry adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking. Read the Deepal as marginally stronger for occupants, the MG for everyone else.

The MG S6 holds more cargo. Its 581-litre boot tops the Deepal S07's 445, and it opens to 1,690 litres folded against 1,385. The Deepal takes the front boot, 125 litres to the rear-drive MG's 86, which is handy for stashing charging cables. Both are true mid-size SUVs, the Deepal slightly longer overall at 4,750mm to 4,708 and on a longer wheelbase, so rear-seat space is comparable and generous in each. Both seat five. For weekly family loads the MG's larger main boot is the more useful, though the Deepal's frunk is a real convenience.

Value here is a genuine split, not a clear win. The Deepal S07 costs two thousand less up front and backs it with a longer battery warranty, eight years and 240,000km to the MG's seven years and 160,000. The MG S6 answers on the costs that follow: it uses less energy per kilometre, so charging costs less, and it carries an unlimited-kilometre warranty and up to ten years of roadside cover to the Deepal's single year. If the sticker and the cabin lead your thinking, the Deepal wins; if running and holding the car for the long term matter more, the MG does.

Both are recent arrivals, but MG is the more established name in Australia. It has seven EVs on sale and a wide national dealer network, and the S6 is a fresh nameplate with no legacy fault history. Deepal is newer still, the electric brand of China's Changan, but it is sold and serviced here through Inchcape, the long-running importer behind Subaru and Peugeot, which puts a real network behind it. For any young brand, resale and long-term parts support are the true unknowns, and each leans on a long warranty to answer that. On dealer reach today, the MG is ahead.

For most buyers the MG S6 is the stronger all-rounder. It brings more range, faster charging, a bigger boot, lower energy use and much longer roadside cover, for about two thousand more than the Deepal, and it is the easier car to live with day to day and to own long term. The Deepal S07 makes its case on feel and price: a plusher cabin with bigger screens and a 14-speaker Sony system, a standard panoramic roof, a longer battery warranty and the lower sticker. Choose it if the cabin and the saving win you and you mostly charge at home. Otherwise the MG is the safer buy.
